How to crochet in the front and back loops

Welcome!

Learning how to crochet in front and back loops can be a great thing. This technique is not only used to shape amigurumis but it can be used for other reasons. One reason is you could do it to make for example a hove for a horse. Crocheting in the front or back loop can come in handy when doing that type of thing. You can also do it if you want to add a dress that's 3d on a doll.

Getting started with the techniques.

I know you want to learn how to crochet in the back and front loop. So I will now show you how to do this. There is a section for doing it when you're crocheting in rows and when you're crochet in rounds. How to do it is practically identical but I wanted to show you both results. So anyway let's get started with the tips.

Crocheting in Front and Back Loops while doing Rounds

Back Loop

Step 1:

First insert you're hook in the back loop. The back loops is the loop farthest from you.

Step 2:

Next yarn over and pull through the loop.

Step 3:

Now complete whatever stitch you were making.

Front Loop

Step 1:

Insert your kook in to the front loop. As you can probably guess the front loop is the loop closest to you.

Step 2:

Next yarn over and pull through the stitch.

Step 3:

Finally complete whatever stitch you were crocheting.

Crocheting in Front and Back Loops while doing Rows

So when doing it in rows you want to make sure you don't crochet too tightly otherwise the other loops won't show as much.

Back Loop

Step 1:

So first you want to insert your hook in the loops furthest away from you. The reason I have three loops on my hook is because I'm crocheting a double crochet.

Step 1:

Next yarn over and pull through the loop. You can now finish whatever stitch you were crocheting.

Front Loop

Step 1:

So when crocheting in the front loop you want to insert your hook in the loop closest to you.

Step 1:

Now you can finish whatever stitch your doing. If you look at the picture above You can see the back loops of the row.

If you're following a pattern you are more likely to find out that you will be told to crochet in the front and back loops when your crocheting rounds. Although you might be told to crochet in the front and back loops while doing rows it's unlikely.
