Basic Stitches

Welcome

I hope you're ready to learn the basic and most used stitches in this hobby. I will be teaching very simple and very common stitches but, in the future, there will be a blog post on special and rare stitches so stay tuned and come back every Wednesday around 11:00 am EST for a new blog post.

Tips

The following stitches are the ones you will learn today.

  1. Single Crochet

  1. Double Crochet

  1. Triple Crochet

  1. Increase

  1. Decrease

I personally recommend using a thick yarn and a pretty big hook when your learning. Using big yarn and a big hook will make it easier to crochet. I recommend you first learn how to crochet the single crochet stitch since that's the most famous stitch. You will find this stitch in probably every crochet pattern. The other stitches are used a lot but not as much as the single crochet.

Single Crochet

Step 1:

First insert your hook into the next stitch.

Step 2:

Yarn over and pull through the stitch.

Step 3:

You should now have two loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops.

Double Crochet

Step 1:

Yarn over once and insert your hook in the next stitch.

Step 2:

Yarn over and pull through the stitch.

Step 3:

Now yarn over and pull through 2 loops.

Step 4:

Last yarn over and pull through the last two loops.

Triple Crochet

Step 1:

Yarn over twice and insert your hook in the next stitch.

Step 2:

Yarn over once and pull through the current stitch.

Step 3:

Yarn over once and pull through only two loops.

Step 4:

Yarn over once and pull through only two loops.

Step 5:

Finally yarn over once and pull through the final two loops.

Increase

Step 1:

Increasing is very easy. First, in the next stitch make whatever stitch you are working with.

Step 2:

Now crochet that same stitch again in the same stitch.

Single Crochet Decrease

Step 1:

Insert hook in the next stitch and yarn over then pull through that stitch.

Step 2:

Insert hook in the next stitch and yarn over then pull through that stitch.

Step 3:

Lastly yarn over and pull through all three loops on your hook.

Like I mentioned before these are the stitches that are most commonly used. I hope you found this blog post helpful.
